A Quaker Meeting in Dutchess County, New York
Bulls Head-Oswego Friends Meeting
About Bulls Head-Oswego Friends Meeting
Our meeting continues an unbroken tradition of Quaker worship in the Hudson Valley that goes back to 1742. We are a supportive community of Friends who come together in silent worship every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome to join us. Please see our Invitation to Worship page to learn about how silent worship works and what to expect if you join us.
Our process has evolved since the beginning of the Covid era, and our worship now takes place both on Zoom and in person. As of Fall 2023 we are meeting at the meeting house in a hybrid format, with zoom attendance also welcome. See our calendar or email juliaagiordano@gmail.com for information about how to to join us.
Quakers share a common faith, based on experience, that every human being can commune with God directly, without the need for any mediating persons or rituals, and that the worshiping community can commune directly with God, as well. We are peace-loving supporters of human rights, anti-racism, democracy, inclusion, and global fellowship among all people. We call ourselves Friends because our society is known as the Society of Friends.
Our members include artists, teachers, helpers, workers, (good)troublemakers, retired people, incarcerated people, and people who live far away. We support and celebrate people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. We do not all agree on theology and we are happy about that. Some attend our Meeting regularly without being a member. Members of our meeting share the responsibilities of ministry and witness. We would be delighted for you to visit our community.
Even though we meet for worship weekly, Bulls Head is considered a “monthly meeting” because we hold our meetings for business monthly. We are part of New York Yearly Meeting, the gathering of Quaker meetings (congregations) in New York State, northern New Jersey, and southwestern Connecticut. Through our yearly meetings, we are affiliated with both Friends General Conference and Friends United Meeting.
We invite you to reach out to us via juliaagiordano@gmail.com or simply to drop in to our meeting house or virtual worship on Sundays. There is little ceremony to our meetings. But it is where we share our joy in connecting to something greater than ourselves, together.
